Chemistry Analyst

Element has an opportunity for a Chemistry Analyst to join its growing team in Teesside. Our Teesside laboratory specialises in the chemical analysis of metal alloys to ISO 17025 and NADCAP requirements using a wide variety of techniques including ICP-MS, ICP-OES, OES, XRF and gas techniques such as combustion and fusion.


• Booking of work into the Laboratory Management Information computer System (LIMS)
• Preparation of samples, prior to analysis, by microwave dissolution and polishing/linishing
• Performing duties in accordance with Exova’s internal quality system and health & safety procedures
• Undertaking chemical analysis of metal alloys using a wide variety of lab equipment including ICP-MS, ICP-OES, OES, XRF, gas techniques such as combustion & fusion
• Ensuring that equipment maintenance, routine calibrations and quality control checks are performed on time and in accordance with documented procedures
• Contributing to the improvement in the organisation and efficiency of the workplace by implementing agreed continuous improvement ideas
• Monitoring of laboratory consumables and ordering new consumables as required
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping within the laboratory


Skills & Qualifications
• Educated to a good standard in English, Mathematics and Science
• Qualification in Chemistry, Physics, or other relevant subject is preferred
• Previous experience of working within a laboratory environment
• Computer literacy is key, including proficiency in MS Office packages - i.e. Word, Excel
• Pro-active and self- motivated individual
• A team player who can work both under supervision and independently to high standards and tight deadlines
• Ability to prioritise and coordinate a busy workload; therefore, good organisational and time management skills are essential to work in a fast paced environment
• Demonstrable attention to detail, analytical skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
