Mechanical Department Manager

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Department Manager will take on full provide leadership and will take overall responsibility for the Health & Safety of their team and Quality Management, ensuring the services provided to our customers is completed in accordance with company procedures.

• Responsibility for ensuring Health and Safety of the team
• Ensuring the Quality Management system is compliant with Element accreditations and client approvals are maintained
• Conduct Quality inspections of the business i.e. calibration, procedure control, close out identified risks in agreed timescales (RED as priority), ensure staff training is up to date on Quality matters
• Providing dynamic, hands-on leadership to the team so to ensure a consistent application of standards and continuous improvement tools
• Delivering exceptional customer service and customer care, positioning the business as a reliable and trusted advisor for the services provided
• Contributing to the production of monthly KPI’s on “On Time Delivery” for the business
• Managing and prioritising workloads to meet customer demands
Supporting the Business Development Manager in identifying & delivering growth
• Support the Business Development Manager with developing the top Sheffield Key Accounts
• Supporting the Operations Manager Sheffield with monthly P&L whilst being accountable for budget control of the business
• Responsible for the technical operation of the business and services are carried out in accordance to documented procedures
• Focusing on technical competence, ensuring that skills mitigation, staff development and succession planning is proactively managed


Skills & Qualifications:
• Relevant background/qualifications – e.g. Degree, A level, NVQ etc.
• Supervisory experience gained within a technical service delivery environment
• Previous experience of managing a mechanical testing department
• Knowledge and testing experience of relevant techniques essential - i.e. Tensile, Stress Rupture, Elevated Tensile, Impact, etc.
• A thorough understanding of UKAS & Nadcap Quality Systems and experience in their audit process
• A dynamic leader with excellent communication skills
• Experience with department equipment - i.e. micrometers, calipers etc.
• Ability to work well under pressure with excellent attention to detail
