High-speed camera supplier Photron has acquired Photonic Lattice, a company which manufactures the photonic crystal chips used in high-speed and polarized cameras.
Photonic Lattice was originally spun out from Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan in 2002 and has developed a manufacturing technology used to deposit fine lamination patterns of photonic crystals on substrates, a core part of optical measuring equipment and devices used in manufacturing and quality assurance.
Photonic Lattice and Photron have been joint development partners for more than ten years and have developed the high-speed 2D polarization Crysta camera and the birefringence mapping measuring device Kamakiri.
Photron, which is a subsidiary of the Japanese Imagica Group of companies, said it hopes the acquisition will shorten development time of new products and improve the production quality by integrating the development, sales, manufacturing, and management of both firms. It added that it aims to develop new products to expand into the global market in the fields of photonic and semiconductor manufacturing.
