Cobham is to sell its avionics and wireless test and measurement business to USA-based communications network testing and monitoring company Viavi.
The US$455m deal for Cobham’s Wireless Test and Measurement and AvComm connectivity businesses has been approved by the boards of both companies and is expected to close later this year after regulatory approval.
Viavi supplies primarily network test, monitoring and assurance services to broadband and IT network suppliers. The deal diversifies it into military, public safety and avionics test markets.
Cobham AvComm and Wireless Test and Measurement provide testing services for communication service providers’ networks and employ around 3000 people. The companies also supply avionics test solutions to the military, public safety and aviation markets.
Oleg Khaykin, president and CEO of Viavi, said, “Cobham AvComm and Wireless Test and Measurement are recognized leaders with a world-class team that has a long track record of successfully bringing innovative solutions to market. Together, we expect new opportunities to grow through channel expansion and technology sharing as we address rapidly emerging opportunities in 5G, software-defined and virtualized test.”
