NASA test engineers conducted a hotfire test of an Aerojet Rocketdyne RS-25 rocket engine on the A-1 Test Stand at the John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, on 25 September 2018.
The latest test lasted 500 seconds and was another certification of the RS-25’s flight controller, which helps the engine communicate with the SLS rocket. NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) will be the most powerful rocket ever built and will be powered by four RS-25 engines firing simultaneously.
The first launch of the SLS is planned for December 2019.
