The launch pad water deluge system is used to reduce extreme heat and energy generated by rocket launches at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The system will release approximately 450,000 gallons (2 million litres) of water across the mobile launcher and flame deflector during a launch.
This test of Launch Pad 39B was conducted to verify the system’s increased performance after modifications were carried out and is part of preparations for launching the Space Launch System rocket on Exploration Mission-1
