Joining the Test Department and reporting to the test engineering manager, the principal test engineer will drive test development and lead test engineering support across the business, acting as the technical authority for the test engineering dept.
Working with the test engineering manager, the principal engineer will develop process improvements and work to improve test engineering and production test processes.
The principal engineer will provide mentoring and guidance to the test team to ensure technical knowledge is developed and retained within the team.
Key Responsibilities
• Have demonstrable innovative test and development knowledge of complex Electro-Mechanical mechanisms.
• Define test objectives, prepare and execute in production unit level tests along with full system level functional tests.
• Perform as technical lead to comprehensive aspects of product design.
• Provide leadership and technical direction within the test team.
• Produce quality solutions to validate product in-line within budget, time and quality requirements.
• Provide capital forecasts for new projects on basis of information provided as well as identification all assumptions.
• Lead and work in collaboration with the test team to improve current test methods.
• Provide input to respective design authorities for successful DFM execution
• Be responsible for leading and developing the test engineers through the new product development process.
• Have extensive experience and knowledge of test equipment and methods.
• Coordinate with wider engineering teams during the early stages of product design to ensure production tests are met.
• Provide technical support to the CLS team.
• Lead and support continuous improvement activities within the test department.
• Closely liaise and support the project managers and business department managers with the timely execution of the projects.
• Support Quality department on technical queries during 8D investigations
• Liaise with customers and suppliers regarding quality and project issues.
• Provide support for the production, engineering teams.
• Support the sales teams with bids and quotations
• Work with project managers and sales teams to provide time estimates for test activities.
• Provide cover for Test Manager when required , i.e. during vacations or sickness.
• Any other duties as necessary.
Skills & Experience
Essential
• Excellent knowledge of manual testing electrical and electro-mechanical systems.
• Ability to write comprehensive test plans and factory acceptance tests for new product launches.
• Able to read complex technical drawings, wiring diagrams and PCB schematics.
• Will be able to support production and quality activities when required.
• HNC or equivalent in Electronics Engineering
• Experience with manual test and integration.
• Computer Literate and competent with using Microsoft Word and Excel packages.
Desirable
• PCB testing and fault-finding experience
• Good knowledge of digital camera and video protocols.
• Knowledge of automated test software.
• PLC programming.
• Experience in CAD packages.
• Experience in communication protocols.
• Understanding of networking and network infrastructure.
