Bell Helicopter has announced the beginning of ground constrained testing of the V-280 Valor tilt-rotor aircraft at its Amarillo, Texas, assembly center. The testing will consist of a series of function tests for all aircraft systems and flight controls in advance of first flight.
The company is seeking to change army operations with the V-280, just as it did with the Huey during the Vietnam War. The V-aircraft will have twice the speed and range of today’s helicopters.
The Valor is a clean-sheet, next-generation tiltrotor – which uses lessons from nearly six decades of tiltrotor expertise and is on track for first flight later this year.
