The organisers of the Farnborough International Airshow are to hold this year’s event virtually because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
July 20-24 should have seen the global aerospace industry gather together for the biennial event in the UK, but the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has made it impossible to effectively hold the show.
Instead, the event’s organisers have launched FIA Connect, a series of digital aerospace events that will be free to “attend” and will take place in the same week.
Gareth Rogers CEO of Farnborough International said, “Cancelling this year’s Farnborough International Airshow remains a source of acute disappointment but the team is working hard to develop a virtual event which brings as many aspects of the show to people as possible.
“We know that the cancellation process has not been straightforward and work on delivering a financial solution to exhibitors continues. However, it is vital that Farnborough International does everything possible to contribute to the recovery of organisations throughout the supply chain who have been hit by this pandemic.
“FIA Connect will bring global industry together via an online platform, providing world-class content, insight and business growth opportunities. We are attaching no fee, from Meet the Buyer through to virtual FINN Sessions, this is being offered free of charge. I sincerely hope that we are joined by as many of our exhibitors and visitors as possible this July.”
According to Farnborough International, the FINN Sessions will feature senior industry figures speaking about the topics that matter to industry, while the Meet the Buyer will connect suppliers and customers in “private and secure virtual meetings”.
The Friday will be dedicated to engaging young people with the aerospace sector to attract them to work in the sector and will include careers advice, inspirational speakers, downloads and workshops.
