Static testing of a composite load-bearing wing box on the Irkut MC-21-300 aircraft was completed recently.
The tests, at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI), were intended to confirm wing strength under maximum flight loads to ensure safety compliance for flight testing.
The tests resulted in the wing box withstanding without destruction a load exceeding that determined by the test program. The company regards this as proof of sufficient wing box strength of the MC-21 under maximum flight loads, according to parameters accepted for flight tests.
