The Glenn L. Martin Wind Tunnel (GLMWT) has been a leader in low speed wind tunnel testing since it first opened in 1949. Located at the University of Maryland, the GLMWT has a rich history of providing research and development testing services for a wide range of industry sectors including unmanned aerial vehicles, aircraft, VTOL, automotive, naval vehicles, athletics, buildings, antennae, hurricane survivability, and more. The test section dimensions of 7.75 ft by 11 ft and maximum speed of 235 mph is perfect for studying models at a variety of scales.
The GLMWT staff is dedicated to working closely with clients from around the world to fulfill their testing needs using state-of-the-art measurement devices and techniques. In addition to providing high-precision six-component force and moment measurements, the GLMWT is equipped with a high-speed pressure scanning system capable of acquiring hundreds of channels of data. Time-resolved flow field measurements can be acquired in the GLMWT using a high-speed particle image velocimetry system. An in-house Vicon system can also be used to characterize the unsteady aeroelastic behavior of models. The GLMWT strives to provide clients with comprehensive data sets that can be used to evaluate performance and inform the design process.
